SASSA R350 SRD Extended for 2025
On March 1st 2024, ANC NEC Member Lindiwe Zulu addressed the nation and spoke about the SASSA SRD COVID-19 grant extension for 2025. However, the decision was made on 1st November 2023 by the government of South Africa.
On the SA News website, the government has announced the extension for the SRD R350 grant. According to the Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana, the SASSA Social Relief of Distress grant is increased for another year with the help of an extra R34 billion budget.
So it is good news for all the SRD applicants and previous beneficiaries to continue receiving social support until March 2025.
COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant Increased for March 2025
COVID-19 SRD R350 grant was started in 2020 by the government of South Africa to facilitate the effective unemployed citizens. The grant was started to provide a source of income every month for those who can not receive salaries due to the lockdown of the pandemic.
However, there were rumours that the grant will end on 31 March 2024 as the government does not have more funds to run this program. But with the open statement from the government authorities, now we have a complete answer that the SRD R350 is going to end in March 2025 rather than 2024.
Here is the Tweet where Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Daphney Zulu is addressing the nation regarding the extension of the SRD grant.
What Will Be the Positive Effects of This One Year Extension?
SASSA is not only distributing the SRD grant but other seven types of grants as well. Many people in South Africa are relying on these types of grant payments. And when we specifically talk about the SRD COVID-19 Social Grant, it is a great thing for all unemployed citizens.
With the extension of one year, here are the possible benefits that the nation will get until March 2025:
More Money Coming: The government has added an extra R34 billion to keep the R350 grant going until March 2025. This means more cash in your pocket for another year.
Help for the Jobless: The R350 grant started in 2020 to assist folks who lost their jobs because of the pandemic. Now, if you’re still struggling to find work, this grant is here to support you until March 2025.
No Stress About March 2024: Good news! The rumors about the grant ending in March 2024 were just rumors. You can breathe easy because the government has confirmed the extension, so you’ll keep getting help for another year.

Continued Social Support: The grant is not just about R350; it’s a lifeline for many South Africans. With this extension, people who rely on different types of grants can still count on support from SASSA until March 2025.
Relief for Many Families: If your family depends on grant payments, this extension brings relief. You can plan your finances better with the assurance that the support will keep coming for another year.
Keeping Hope Alive: The extension is a sign that the government is committed to helping citizens during tough times. It’s like a beacon of hope for those facing economic challenges.
2024 is The Year of Improvements for South Africa
In the 2024 budget plan, a big chunk, about 61%, of the money the government is spending (excluding interest payments) is going to things that directly benefit the people. This includes stuff like healthcare, education, housing, social protection, transportation, jobs, and local facilities.
They call it the “social wage” because it’s like the government’s way of investing in things that make life better for everyone. So, most of the budget is focused on making sure people have good stuff like health services, schools, and places to live
