What is the SASSA Grant-in-Aid?
SASSA Grant-in-aid is an additional grant for the SASSA grant beneficiaries. This grant is for those receiving the SASSA grants like Older Persons or Disability grants but needs a person to look after themselves.
Beneficiaries can hire someone who can take care of them full-time. SASSA will pay the salary for that caregiver.
What Are the SASSA Grant-in-Aid Requirements?
Do you need the Grant-in-aid? You must comply with the SASSA eligibility criteria for this grant approval.
- You must be a recipient of the SASSA Older Persons grant, War Veterans grant, or Disability grant.
- Must pass the means test.
- You must be unable to look after yourself and require a full-time person to care for you.
- You are not allowed to live in any state-owned old age home.
- A medical report to prove you are mentally or physically disabled and can not take your care.

SASSA Grant-in-Aid Application

Visit the SASSA Office:

SASSA Grant-in-Aid Amount 2024
For 2024, the Grant-in-Aid payment is set to R510 per month. This is an additional amount that recipients will get along with their other SASSA grant payments.

You can not check your SASSA Grant-in-aid status online. There is only one way to check your status: the SASSA written letter. You have to wait for that letter to know about the approval or disapproval of your application.
What If My Grant Application Disapproves?
When you receive a letter from SASSA informing you about your disapproval, you can appeal this SASSA decision.
You have the right to appeal to the Minister of Social Development within 90 days after the grant application is declined.
