SASSA Old Age Grant Application

The application for an Old Age grant can be submitted to SASSA offices. Unfortunately, you can not apply online for this grant as SASSA does not offer online applications for the Old Age grant.

However, if you cannot walk and visit the SASSA office then anyone from your family can apply on your behalf. So you don’t need to visit the office as your family members can do it for you.

  1. Send someone from your family to visit the SASSA office and apply for the Old Age grant on your behalf.
  2. The applicant should have your ID card and personal details.
  3. After visiting the SASSA office, talk to the available officer about the grant application.
  4. Fill out the application in front of the officer.
  5. Once your application is completed, you need to submit it to the office.
  6. The officer will provide you with a dated stamped receipt as proof of your application submission. You need to keep this receipt safe for future reference.
  7. Now come back home and wait for the approval.

What Documents are Needed to Apply for the Old Age Pension at SASSA?

You must need some documents before you apply for the SASSA old age pension grant. Here is the complete list for you:

  • ID documents of both you and your spouse. If you do not have ID documents, you must fill out an affidavit.
  • A proof of your spousal relationship. You can submit the following documents:
    • Marriage certificate.
    • Divorce order.
    • Death certificate of your spouse.
    • An affidavit or sworn statement.
  • An affidavit or sworn statement about the income status and asset values you and your spouse have.
  • Proof of your independent children’s income status. It should be documented.
  • A documented proof of your income and your spouse’s income.

Note: SASSA will have the right to ask for any additional documents if required. Also, you may have to sign the affidavits if needed.

Eligibility Criteria 2025

Follow these rules if you are willing to apply for an Old Age Pension or Older Persons grant:

  • You need to be a permanent South African citizen, refugee, or resident.
  • Your age should be 60 years or above.
  • Your residence should be in South Africa.
  • You and your spouse have to pass the means test.
  • You should not be receiving any other social grant for yourself and your spouse.
  • You should not be cared for in any governmental institute, such as an old-age home or rehabilitation center.

How Much is the SASSA Old Age Pension in 2025?
