Will the SRD Grant Continue for 2026?
The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was initially introduced in 2020 as a temporary financial aid program to assist unemployed and vulnerable individuals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally planned to end in 2021, the grant has seen multiple extensions due to ongoing economic hardships and high unemployment rates.
The government has continued renewing the program since 2021, recognizing its importance in providing essential support to millions of beneficiaries. In March 2024, the SRD grant was once again extended, ensuring financial assistance remains available. However, this extension has been officially declared as the final one, meaning beneficiaries will receive payments only until the approved period expires.
Unless new policies or funding initiatives emerge, the grant will not continue beyond its latest extension, making it crucial for recipients to explore alternative financial support options before its conclusion.
