What are the Required Documents for NSFAS Application in 2024?

Before you apply for NSFAS, you must have the following list of documents to qualify for the grant. So here are the documents that every student needs before applying for NSFAS.

  • First of all, you need to have a personal email address and a phone number. This is necessary because NSFAS will contact you through that number or email. Also, you will need to have an email to check your NSFAS grant status online.

  • For orphan students, they need to fill out the NSFAS declaration form. This form will also need the signature of the social services department, so submit the form there.
  • In the case where a child is deemed vulnerable, a declaration and consent form for vulnerable children must be signed by either the guardian or an adult. The form acknowledges that the child is vulnerable and requires special attention, and it also gives permission for the child to participate in the relevant program or activity.

What is the NSFAS Application Procedure?

Step 1:

Open your smartphone or laptop and navigate to your web browsers like Firefox or Chrome. Now, enter the URL of the official website of ESFAS “www.nsfas.org.za/apply-2024” and press enter on your laptop or tap on the search bar on any smartphone.

Step 2:

Once you land on the official portal, here you will need to find the myNSFAS. You can find it on the top right side of the website. Just click or tap on that orange button.

Step 3:

Now you need to register for myNSFAS. Here you need to create an account on myNSFAS. The process of creating an account on myNSFAS is simple and all you need to do is:

  1. Visit the governmental website of NSFAS that is “www.nsfas.org.za
  2. Now click on the myNSFAS button at the right upper corner of the website.
  3. Here you will see a new page of the website where you need to fill in the information.
  4. Click or tap on Create an account.
  5. Provide your personal information like name, address, email address, and ID number.
  6. Now choose a strong password for your account.
  7. Accept all the terms and conditions that will appear on the screen.
  8. Once you enter all the required things, fill in the captcha and click on the Create account button.
  9. Your new account will be created.

Step 4:

Finally, here you need to apply for NSFAS. Once your account is created, you can click on the Apply now button. Here you will need to answer some questions. After answering the questions, you need to upload all the required documents. Once you have uploaded all the documents, click on submit and that’s it.

How to Upload and Submit Outstanding NSFAS Documents?

  1. Go to my.nsfas.org.za.
  2. Click on myNSFAS and proceed to the login process.
  3. Enter your ID number and password to login to your account.
  4. Now go to your account’s portal and look for “Upload outstanding supporting documents”.
  5. On this option, you can upload your documents.
  6. Upload all the documents and click on submit.
  7. Once you click on the submit button, you will see the message “Outstanding Documents have been Successfully Uploaded”. That means your documents are uploaded.

What is the NSFAS Grant Amount?

Here is the amount of NSFAS grants that students will get once they are approved for this financial aid program.

Grant Amount For UNISA Students

If you are a student of UNISA then here is the amount that you will get after the approval of the grant.

  • If you are registered with NSFAS for more than 10 modules, then you will get Rs2900 per year as grant money.
  • You will get R600 as grant money for the first four modules as learning material.

Grant Amount For University Students

For normal students, here are the amounts that you will get:

  • For all students who are living 40 Kilometers away from the university, they will get R7500 per year.
  • If you are living in private accommodation, you will get all the expenses.
  • Get R15000 per year to cover your living expenses.

Grant Money For TVET College Students

  • Urban Area Allowance: Get R24000 per year.
  • Peri-Urban Area Allowance: Get R18900 per year.
  • Rural Area Allowance: Get R15750 per year.
  • Transportation Allowance: Get R7350 per year if you are living 40km away from the university or college.
  • Personal Care Allowance: Get R900 per year.
